Shereen Badawy, a NH Registered Educator Apprentice in the Manchester School District has been recognized by the US Department of Labor as a trailblazer. She is a new American, becoming a US Citizen in August 2023, trilingual with a BA from her native country of Egypt plus graduate courses. Shereen started working in schools as a paraprofessional, making less than $15 an hour. She was asked to teach French at Manchester’s Southside Middle School under an emergency authorization due to a teacher shortage – but she would have to get her teaching license within a short time. The NH Registered Educator Apprenticeship Program is helping to make this possible. Shereen is one of 119 individuals who have wanted to become teachers, but it was out-of-reach. This program is making it possible for individuals to reach their dreams, while diversifying the NH teacher workforce and helping NH to prepare qualified educators for our PreK-12 students.
