NCDE is most grateful and proud to announce that JPMorgan Chase has awarded grant support for us to undertake the following initiative to scale financial inclusion supports in NH, then in several other states with the help of fellow State Bank On coalition leaders, and then nationally, with interested Bank On coalitions, community colleges, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs):

  1. Assist these postsecondary institutions to strengthen their capacity to tap financial literacy volunteers, from nearby banks and credit unions, to equip all their students with financial literacy skills for sound financial aid borrowing decision making.
  2. Provide all students and their families with information on how and why to enroll in certified Bank On checking accounts (free and very-low cost checking accounts with no bounced-check penalty fees).
  3. Assist the institutions to partner with NCDE, their state bankers association, and the US Department of Labor to create apprenticeship programs for youths and adults into banking careers.
  4. Strengthen the institution’s ability to identify and remove all digital divide barriers to their students’ academic engagement and success.

We are equally grateful to the growing network of leaders of state Bank On coalitions that have recently come together to create the State Financial Inclusion Leaders Network, to share promising and proven practices with one another, and support learning from, improving upon, and scaling initiatives such as the one described above.
